52 Thoughts I Had While Rewatching Disney's Pinocchio

Hello Lovelies!

I'd like to start this post off by saying that I hadn't seen Pinocchio in over five years when I watched it... it's a little different than I remembered it. So, without further adieu, here is my train of thought during Pinocchio.

1. Why does Jiminy Cricket have a hillbilly accent? Isn't Pinocchio German?

2. Why did Geppetto give Pinocchio no mouth?

3. Ahh, he's painting on the mouth. Never mind.

4. Ooh, the fish and the cat don't like the name Pinocchio.

5. Geppetto really needs some company.

6. How is the fish so pretty? It's not fair, she's a fish!

7. Ah yes, an alarm clock where the alarm noise is a child screaming while his mother spanks him. Lovely.

8. That pipe is literally as long as your arm, Geppetto. I'm concerned.

9. The cat is me. I am literally this cat.

10. I'm pretty sure the Blue Fairy is just Snow White with blonde hair.

11. Geppetto, go back to bed.

12. How are two foxes walking around and no one notices? Yet people notice Pinocchio is wooden...

13. I'm convinced the cat wants to be human and that's why he's jealous of Pinocchio.

14. For being a conscience, Jiminy's not very noble or good.

15. Lol, the cat/lion/fox/human thing is so stupid.

16. Yeah Pinocchio, don't be an actor. There's no money in that. Go to school.

17. How has Pinocchio become so famous in like 30 seconds?

18. Poor Pinocchio. All these girls want him and he looks terrified.

19. The show runner just locked Pinocchio in a cage!

20. And now he's twerking. This is not good.

22. The dolls are hanging by their necks and the lightning keeps flashing on their smiling faces. This is creepy. How is this a children's movie?

23. Poor Geppetto. He's all alone in his bathrobe in the rain trying to find his son.

24. How does a puppet blow his nose? What does he get? Splinters instead of boogers?

25. Ooh. Pinocchio's in trouble now. The Blue Fairy wants to know why Pinocchio didn't go to school.

26. How did his nose grow birds? Maybe he gets birds instead of boogers.

27. Ooh. His coins are bigger than the show runner/director's. Take his, fox people.

28. Did the man just say he's collecting stupid little boys?

29. This is so not a children's movie.

30. Let me get this right. He's collecting stupid boys to take to a place called Pleasure Island where they never come back as boys. Please tell me I'm not the only one whose mind is going some place it shouldn't.

31. Pinocchio! Don't go to Pleasure Island; you won't be able to go school... I'm sensing a theme here.

32. So Pleasure Island is basically a big carnival with free drinks and cakes.... can I go to Pleasure Island?

33. "Come here and smoke your heads off!" Who decided this was an appropriate movie for children?

34. "You buttered your bread, now sleep in it." I don't think that's how that phrase goes Jiminy.

35. The stupid-boy-collecting man is turning the stupid boys into donkeys. Okay. That's not what I was expecting.

36. The real question is, why are there no girls here? Answer, because girls aren't this stupid apparently.

37. Oh, we're in trouble. Pinocchio's turning into a donkey.

38. This is horrifying.

39. Finally. Go home Pinocchio.

40. Where's Geppetto?

41. Oh, he was swallowed by a whale. Of course. I should have seen that coming.

42. Pinocchio's going to drown himself to find the whale at the bottom of the sea. Right. That's logical.

43. Now he's dragging the rock that sunk him around with him. Is this supposed to be symbolic?

44. Aww, the sea horses are so cute!

45. "I never though it would end this way. Starving to death in the belly or a whale." I can't imagine many people would think it would end that way, Geppetto.

46. They're literally making a fire in the belly of the whale just for the purpose of making it sneeze so they can get out. How stupid are these people? Why is the whale not burning on the inside? So many questions!

47. Oh. The whale's having a sneezing fit. This isn't good. The whale's the size of the hotel.

48. "Oh no! Now he hates me!" Well if you wanted him to like you Geppetto, maybe you shouldn't have set your boat on fire in his belly. Not the best way to make friends.

49. No! Pinocchio's dead (although I'm a little confused as to how. Can't he breathe underwater?)

50. Oh please! You're going to save him? He hasn't been selfless, brave or true! He's been a brat.

51. Yeah, yeah, Pinocchio's alive. We get it.

52. Awww, Jiminy's got his gold badge. Good for him.

Well.

That was something.

A little different than I remember.

Okay, a lot different than I remember.

Moral of the story: Stay in school kids.

Up next: Bambi

The Disney Month

Hello Lovelies!!

So as you've probably read, I've finished high school (yay), and been accepted into a five-month program starting in March (yay 2x).

However, as you may notice, it is only February.

I don't start the program until the 7th of March, which gives me almost a month of no school or work (gasp).

Now what could I do with a whole month....

DISNEY MOVIE MARATHON!!!

About halfway through January, I decided that one of things I wanted to do this month before I left home, was to watch all of my favourite Disney movies in chronological order of when they were released. Now, I started to make the list and realized that it was just way too long for me to finish in a month. I like too many movies. Oops. So I had to narrow it down to movies released 2000 or earlier, and they all had to be cartoon.

And then I thought, "How can I make this into a blog thing? Because this really feels like this could be a blog thing." And I came up with the idea to do a "30 (or 40, or 50, doesn't really matter) Thoughts I Had While Watching ___________" post for each of the movies I watch, complete with gifs if I can find them. I'll scatter these with other posts as well, otherwise I think you and I would both go crazy.

Here's the list (in order because it's me, so of course it's in order):

- Pinocchio (1940)
- Bambi (1942)
- Alice in Wonderland (1951)
- Peter Pan (1953)
- Lady and the Tramp (1955)
- 101 Dalmatians (1961)
- The Jungle Book (1967)
- The Aristocats (1970)
- Robin Hood (1973)
- The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (1977)
- The Rescuers (1977)
- The Fox and the Hound (1981)
- The Little Mermaid (1989)
- Beauty and the Beast (1991)
- Aladdin (1992)
- The Lion King (1994)
- Pocahontas (1995)
- Hercules (1997)
- Mulan (1998)
- Tarzan (1999)
- The Tigger Movie (2000)

I hope you all will join me in rewatching some of the greatest cartoon movies of all time. What are some of your favourite Disney movies? Did I include them on my list?

Film Camp

Hello Lovelies!!

If you remember, a few posts ago, I talked about my genius realization that I should go into film, as I love writing and working with a camera. Well, shortly after I posted that post, I signed up for film camp in Toronto and two weeks ago, I actually went. Le gasp! Sarah interacting with other humans! Le gasp!

It was such an amazing experience. I typically find it really hard to be with other humans for an extended period of time as I get really tired, but at the end of these eight hour days, I left the group of twenty six feeling energized and inspired. I got to work with amazing people and amazing equipment and it completely confirmed the fact that I should go into film.

Ten points to you if you can spot me.

Every day we did one or two little films and then attended workshops with guest professionals (one was the writer and producer of Orphan Black, another had shot music videos with Drake and was scheduled to film a movie with Donald Sutherland, another had just finished directing and writing her first full length movie, you get the gist).

We were split up on the first day into groups and in our little groups, we were to come up with an idea for a short film, write a script and then shoot and edit it. This was my group's movie. I got to write and direct some of it and act in a bunch of it as the main girl. Just a warning, my acting is not great. In fact, it's pretty terrible. The funny thing about this camp was that everyone was so much more comfortable behind the camera, so no one really wanted to act. Therefore, I was stuck with the job. I am not an actor. Don't judge. But enjoy. Because I really enjoyed making it.

It was an amazing experience and definitely one of the high lights of my year.

A Future in Film?

Hello Lovelies!

Senior year is stressful. I'm just going to put that out there. You have to do all your assignments knowing that their grades will be put on a transcript that has the power to possibly dictate your future education.

And then, there's the whole matter of University. You're supposed to choose what you want to do for the next four years and then, it's implied, for the rest of your life.

Now, I'm kind of lucky. I get to do my senior year over a year and half instead of a year, due to a wonderful friend who may have accidentally kicked me in the head and given me a concussion for six months. So, I'm currently reaching the end of my "official" grade twelve year. Next fall, I just have to finish up two or three courses.

But as I'm, well, me and I'm someone who likes planning ahead, the stress and need to plan things out has been immense. For the past year or so, I've been desperately trying to find a University that will let me study photography or film and creative writing together to contribute to one degree. You'd think it'd be easy, but noooo. Apparently, photography or film works towards a "BFA" (bachelor of fine arts) and creative writing works towards a "BA" (bachelor of arts). And that darned "fine" is getting in the way of me doing both together.

Then, about a week ago, about half past midnight, I had an epiphany.

Why don't I just do a BFA in film? It would let me work with my camera and do creative writing at the same time, just not under the name of "creative writing". And the University I'd probably take film at has the possibility of me taking actual creative writing courses and actual photography courses! Plus, it'd be close to home and I wouldn't have to fly all the way out to UBC.

I've done film projects before and I absolutely love making them. I've been writing scripts since I was about twelve. I've been filming people and skits since I was about ten, when my little kiddie camera didn't even have sound. So I don't know why it never occurred to me before.

This realization's got me feeling a little like this.

Anyways, a weight has been lifted off my brain and I'm kind of excited.

If you have any interest in looking at some of projects I've done, I've attached two videos beneath.

Depths of Despair

Hello Lovelies,

My heart is in the depths of despair, truly broken.

Jonathan Crombie passed away four days ago on April 15 and my heart has broken.

For anyone who's followed my blog for a long time knows that I love Anne of Green Gables, the book and the movie. Despite my mother's vehement protests, it is my belief that Jonathan Crombie was the best Gilbert Blythe ever.

I fell in love with him in the books and then again in the movies. The boyish grin. The kind sensitivity. The playful teasing. The curly hair. As melancholic as it sounds, a piece of my heart will always lie with the boy with the "curly brown hair, roguish hazel eyes, and a mouth twisted into a teasing smile".

"A world without any Gilbert in it! Anne repeated the words drearily. Would it not be a very lonely, forlorn place?"

Yes Anne, I'm afraid it will be. But he will forever live on in our hearts, in our books and on our screens as we watch you both fall in love time and time again.

Rest in peace Jonathan Crombie. You were amazing.

12POC #1: White Christmas

Hello Lovelies!

Welcome to the first post of 12 Posts of Christmas! Today I thought I would share with you my favourite Christmas movie and one of my favourite classics: White Christmas!

This movie was released in 1954 starring Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney and Vera-Ellen. It's a cute musical movie about an pair of friends from World War 2 who form a musical act and then meet two sisters who also have their own musical act. They both separately decide to go to Vermont for the holidays and end up meeting there again. They end up collaborating.

I really like Danny Kaye a lot, he's one of my favourite classic actors. Bing Crosby has an incredible voice and I love the dynamics that form between the sisters and the friends. And the music in this movie is really wonderful.

My family and I watch this movie every Christmas and it always makes me feel Christmasy. I've even been known to sneak it out at the end of the school year during exams. It's so cute and it always leaves me with a warm fuzzy feeling at the end.

Here's the trailer!

What are your favourite Christmas movies? :) Leave a comment below and let me know!

The Favourites Tag

Hello People!

So here we are, a week later... oops. I honestly have no excuse other than school and life has been hectic and I've been exhausted.

I was planning to do a favourites of April post but then I realized, it's a third of the way through May and kinda late to do an April Favourites tag, and my favourites post would have consisted of "I See Fire" by Ed Sheeran and "Parade Rain" by Hedley. I didn't do a lot or buy almost anything in April.

But! I figured I could still do a favourites post, I would just do an all time favourites instead of a monthly favourites. And then I thought, "Why not get other people to do this too!? That way I can see what their favourite stuff is and get to know them a little better!" And then it became the favourites tag. Some of the categories are going to be random, you've been forewarned.

I seem to have a thing with randomly creating tags or challenges. If you've come up with a tag that I seem to have I thought I was the creator of, please let me know. I really don't mean to steal anyone's ideas. :)

All Time Favourites

Favourite Song: "September" by Daughtry. I think I've already posted this on one of my "Song of the Day" things but I'll put it here again. :)

Now I want bacon...
Or chicken....

I am currently obsessed with this song. It's really applicable in my life right now and I have it on repeat.

Day One Of the Alphabet Challenge!

Hello Lovely Peoples!

Welcome to the first post of the alphabet challenge (which I have decided is an incredibly stupid title that sounds like it would appear on sesame street, any brilliant ideas for a new name?)! For those of you who didn't see my last post, I'll briefly recap.

Basically, for the next 26 posts, each post topic will start with the next letter of the alphabet. This doesn't necessarily mean that the title of the post will start with the letter, only that the topic begins with the letter. I can't use adjectives as the letter for my topic unless that actually matter. "Favourite Condiments To Put On Hotdogs" would be okay because it's specifically favourites, but "Amazing Hairstyles" would not be okay. So today would start with the letter 'A', Friday post will start with 'B' etc. etc.  I think that's it.

Starting things off, today's topic is 20th Century Fox's Anastasia!!

This movie is one of my top five favourite cartoon movies. And that's saying something since I love so many cartoon movies. It has a great relationship that isn't sickening sweet where they fall in love at first side, a great soundtrack, an entertaining villain and feel good feeling at the end. Pretty much nothing like the actual story of Anastasia. :P

Plot Overview

The story starts at a ball in the palace with Anastasia and her family when Anastasia. That evening, the palace is attacked and her entire family except her grandmother is killed in a fire, started by the villian Rasputin. She gets separated from her grandmother and grows up not knowing who she is. Ten years later, she decides to try and find out who is she is, following the only clue she has, which is a necklace that says, "Together in Paris". So she goes to Paris. All this time, the grandmother has been looking for her grand-daughter, offering a huge reward for whoever can find her. Meanwhile, there are these two con men, Vlad and Dimitri who are trying to find a girl who can play the part of Anastasia so they can get the money. Then they run into Anastasia and get her to play the part, but no one knows who she actually is. Dimitri and Anastasia constantly clash. As she is being taught how to be Anastasia, she starts to remember things, without knowing why she is remembering these things. Meanwhile, Rasputin has found out Anastasia is still alive and is trying to find ways to kill her. And because I am awful at cliffhangers and trying to trail things off so I don't spoil anything, I'm going to not say anything else and stop here. :)

Dimitri and Anastasia

Kay, I shipped these two before I even knew what shipping was. I was never someone to like the easy, love-at-first-sight relationships. I love, love, love, love the couples that start off hating each other and then slowly get to know each other and kinda start to fall for each other and then actually fall in love with each other. Han and Leia. Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy. Anne and Gilbert. And so many more.

Dimitri and "Anya" are one of these couples. I love their banter and their slow journey from despising each other's guts to being in love. They just, I just, gahh. And it helps that Dimitri is attractive too. :)

Villains

Like I said, the villains in this movie are quite entertaining. The main villain, Rasputin, is perfectly evil. Imagine a rotting Jafar. And like in most cartoon movies, he has the best song. Why is that? Why do the bad guys have the coolest, most intense songs?

The villain's sidekick, Bartok, is really one of the best comedic relief characters ever. He's like one of those sidekicks that really isn't evil, just adorable.

Anastasia's Character

I actually love the character of Anastasia in this movie. She's not like most cartoon/disney princesses. She's smart and knows her way around. She's inquisitive and curious. She doesn't fall for Dimitri right away. She speaks sass and sarcasm fluently. She's strong and brave, but isn't afraid to feel emotion or admit to being weak. I think we need more cartoon princesses like her.

So there was A! I hope you enjoyed my rave. I strongly encourage you to watch this movie if you haven't already. It's one of my all time favourites and really amazing. :)

Until next time!

The 5 Best Things About Disney

Okay, I don't know about you, but I think Disney is the most incredible producer of animated movies. Ever. I am a fan of almost every single movie and I can sing loudly (and most likely off key) to pretty much any song from the soundtracks. But I got to thinking today. I know right? Me? Thinking? *Gasp!*
Anyways! I was thinking, asking myself, "What is it about Disney that I like so much? Why do I think it is so awesome? What makes it so much better than other animation studio?" And I think I have efficiently narrowed it down to five things that truly make Disney magical for me. So here they are in no particular order!

1. The Soundtracks

From "Hakuna Matata", to "Let It Go" to "Make A Man Out Of You", Disney music has always been so great.  Emotion filled power ballads to funny, comedic tunes, I love the diversity of the music! And it can be very relatable. I mean, I can't even count the number of times I must have sang "I Won't Say I'm In Love" when I was 12, refusing to admit that I liked the guy. The songs are super catchy. They get stuck in your head for days.

2. The Comedic Relief

C'mon, admit it, the comedic relief character is one of the best, if not the best, character in the whole movie. So, for your reading pleasure, here are two of my favourite funny scenes from Disney movies.

Timon: Hey, what's going on here? Who's the monkey?
Nala: Simba's gone back to challenge Scar.
Timon: Who?
Nala: Scar.
Pumbaa: Who's got a scar?
Nala: No, no, no. It's his uncle.
Timon: The monkey's his uncle?
Nala: *No!* Simba's gone back to challenge his uncle to take his place as king.
Timon, Pumbaa: Ohhh. - Timon and Pumbaa (The Lion King)

Dory: [about the humpback whale] Maybe he only speaks whale.
[slowly and deeply, imitating the whale] Mooo... Weeee neeeed...
Marlin: Dory?
Dory: ...tooo fiiind hiiis sooon.
Marlin: What are you doing? Are you sure you speak whale?
Dory: Caaaan yoooou giive uuuus direeeeectioooons?
Marlin: Dory! Heaven knows what you're saying! See, he's swimming away.
Dory: Cooome baaaaack.
Marlin: He's not coming back. You offended him.
Dory: Maybe a different dialect. Mmmmoooooowaaaaah...
Marlin: Dory! This is not whale. You're speaking like, upset stomach.
Dory: Maybe I should try humpback.
Marlin: No, don't try humpback.
Dory: Woooooo! Woooooo!
Marlin: Okay, now you really do sound sick.
Dory: Maybe louder. Rah! Rah!
Marlin: Don't do that!
Dory: Too much orca. Did it sound a little orca-ish to you?
Marlin: It doesn't sound orca. It sounds like nothing I've ever heard! - Dory (Finding Nemo)

3. The Attractive Princes

Okay, I'll admit it, I had crushes on Robin Hood and Aladdin growing up. What? I couldn't help it. :) They are attractive! Robin Hood was just so cool! He was noble and a bit of a scoundrel what with being an outlaw and all. And he had a british accent. And he was...foxy.*Ba dum tish!*

And then there was Aladdin. *Sigh*. His cheeky grin. His desire to be seen as more than street trash. His mischievous nature. His dreamer side. His selflessness. His lovely... physique. :)

And then there was tons more like Flynn Rider and Kristoff and Shang and Tarzan but Aladdin and Robin Hood were my favourites.

4. The Emotion Filled Scenes

In every movie, there is at least one emotion filled scene in which the main character finally reaches the end or changes for the better. Or the scene where a character "dies" and everyone is sad, but then the character comes back to life! Disney has perfected this emotional scene to a beautiful... beautifulness. I have so many that I love but my favourite one is below. :)

Other honourable mentions
Baloo "dying" in The Jungle Book
Elsa singing "Let It Go" in Frozen
The Lantern Scene in Tangled
Andy giving his toys away in Toy Story 3

5. The Relationships

When I say "relationships" I mean the relationships between the family and the friends. Not the romantic relationships, because, admittedly, Disney doesn't have a great track record for creating even semi-realistic romantic relationships. So here are my "relationship awards" for Disney movies!

Mother-Child Relationship

Elastigirl and Dash and Violet from The Incredibles

Father-Child Relationship

There were so many to choose from here but the winner is Mufasa and Simba from The Lion King

Brother-Sister Relationship

Dash and Violet from The Incredibles

Sister-Sister Relationship

Elsa and Anna from Frozen

Mentor-Mentoree

I wasn't sure whether or not to add this category but I love the winners so I decided I would. :)
Baloo and Mowgli from The Jungle Book

Friends

There were so, so, so, so many to choose from! I had such a hard time with this one but I finally decided on Copper and Todd from Fox and the Hound.

Alright! That is it for my Disney appreciation post!! I hope you enjoyed it. :)

What are your favourite Disney songs, characters, movies etc.?
